An open air museum that shows how welsh people lived during the last 500 years, with many original buildings from various points in history. The museum is in the grounds of St Fagan's castle, a stately home which is also open to the public. Admission is free.
Cardiff Castle, City Centre map

Cardiff has an unusual castle, firstly because it is in the city centre, and also because the different parts of it are from several different time periods from the Romans to the 20th Century. Check the website for admission fees.
Castle Coch, Tongwynlais, Cardiff map
Castle Coch meaning "Red Castle" is a Victorian reconstruction of a Medieval castle and is built on a wooded hill to the north of the city.
